Due to the changes made during out last outage, some students living in the dorms might not be able to connect to MLC web servers. This currently affects the following servers/services:
- MLC website, http://mlc-wels.edu
- Moodle, http://moodle.mlc-wels.edu
- BigBlueButton, http://bbb.mlc-wels.edu
There is the possibility we have missed one or two as well, but those are the “big three” currently. We are aware of the issue and it seems to affect people who fit into the following criteria:
- living on-campus
- connect via a wireless router in a dorm room
- wireless router is serving IP addresses starting with 192.168.x.x
While this is not a complete outage, it is affecting a good number of students. We are working on a permanent fix for the situation which will involve further some small amounts of downtime this week but the aim is to have the fix deployed by the end of the week.
Until then, using the computers in any of the computer labs should give you unfettered access to MLC web servers.
If you want to try a “fix”, attempt to change what IP addresses your wireless router assigns to your devices from 192.168.x.x to something else. Avoid 172.17.x.x if at all possible since that will also interfere with the dorm network.
However, if you are not comfortable with changing your router ‘sconfiguration, please do not attempt the above.
11/2/2013 Update: The changes advocated in this post are no longer entirely valid. There will be some wireless router setup instructions added to the Network Services website in the future.
